Marble Statue of a Kouros - 360 Degree View

Greek Attic, ca. 590B.C. - 580B.C. One of the earliest marble statues of a human figure carved in Attica.(Ancient Greece) The rigid stance, with the left leg forward and the arms at the side, was derived from the Egyptian Art. This is especially clear from details of the beaded hair and the almond shaped eyes. The pose provided a clear, simple formula that was used by the Greek sculptors throughout the sixth century B.C. In this early figure, almost abstract, geometric forms predominate; and anatomical details are rendered in beautiful, analogous patterns.This statue is thought to have marked the grave of a young Athenian aristocrat.
