I don't think that anyone could explain that differences "briefly". For some general information about the concept of family you might have a look at this:

At least the first chapter ("The Gods of the House") would be worth reading. It gives some insight into the concept of the institution "family" in ancient times and how it may have been developed. Also the term "property" and it's use in the named context is discussed.

Will anybody explain briefly what were the differences among the forms of families in ancient Rome, Greece and East.? I took a look at The Origin of Family, Private Property and the State by F Engels, but couldn't find the answer.
