The British Empire was a horrible institution that pillaged every place they roamed for cultural treasures, slaves and or natural resources. They should return all the cultural atrifacts they stole from innumerable places and cultures around the world. The Elgin marbles would be a good start! Disgusting that these world cultural treasues have now aquired the name of the thief who stole them from thier rightful owners. As a form of reparations for this crime the Brit Museum should be forced to maintain the marbles for the next 101 years.

I am in agreement that the Elgin Marbles should go back, but the fact remains that the British Museum does take care of its collections. If they had not been taken from Greece by Lord Elgin, they may have been destroyed by other means. So in some way at least the Marbles are still what they are and no less- mdv

'Lord' Elgin stole parts of the Parthenon (sculptures mostly) and shipped them off to England. These days, we call it cultural vandalism. In days of Empire, perhaps it was acceptable. Not any more. The 'Elgin Marbles' should go home.
